Songs I really love

Wanted to share three songs that have brought tremendous value to my life :)

Hello Friends!

Today’s topic is three songs I want to share with you all!! All of which have touched me deeply. I share a bit about each of there messages and why I love them so much! Here are the three songs!

  1. Monday - Quadeca

  2. WHY - Jon Bellion

  3. One Day God - Sid Sriram

Monday - Quadeca

This song feels like taking a sail boat and going across the ocean

And there we have it another year has gone by, and as fast at it flew it seems like today could not be moving any slower. And yet Quadeca offers some encouragement amidst the existential; “Darling, don’t you give up on a monday!”.

Its a song that acknowledges the melancholy of how quickly it all slipped away, yet encourages us to keep going. Existential, but hopeful!

Sonically, I love how clean and unprocessed everything feels. The strings are waltzing us forward with beautiful piano, flute and string arrangements that remind me of baroque classical music, mixed with raw vocals who’s phrasing seems to be drawing slightly from hiphop all of which is slowly building momentum through some incredible electronic drums that manage to feel just as live and lively as all the other live elements whilst clearly being electronic.

I must have listened to this song over 100 times because its just so special sonically and to add to that the meaning of it uplifts my spirits on a tough monday morning!

WHY - Jon Bellion

If you’re feeling jaded and having a hard time opening your heart again, this song might help :)

The question is this.. “Why love anything at all? if the higher I fly is the further I fall, then why love anything at all?”

Indeed, it is the degree to which we care and love for others that correlate to the risk and depth of being heartbroken. Jon is writing this song specifically about his first child which he will have just a week after writing this song, but the question applies to all forms of love. It seems to me that as we get older we close our hearts to protect ourselves… “Because the pain hurt so much the last time!!”

But man, when I listen to this song, it becomes so clear to me… The whole point is to love!!! We must risk everything to love each other, and in every heart break we must have faith in the resilience that we know humans are capable of! We’ve seen it time and time again throughout history; That we will get back up, and love will always have been worth it!

This song is raw and soaring in its melodies, gut wrenchingly direct in the simplicity of its lyrics, grand in its message and production despite having so few parts. The best part is Jon poses the question and leaves you to decide for yourself.. Why love anything all?

One Day God - Sid Sriram

Wow.. where do i even begin with this one? it is the most tragic, harrowing cry of grief towards the suffering of man that ive ever heard and yet when delivered by Sid through a slow indian classical infused ballad so full of soul, the beauty of it all convinces me not to despair.

Sid Sriram was my most played artist of 2024, specifically his album “Siddarth” which fuses the most soulful of western styles with his incredible background in indian classical music, having grown up in the west and yet having a mother who taught him strict indian classical music, his music blends the two in a deeply spiritual way unlike any other.

In this song he tells the story of a day when “our god’s” visit us on this earth and are horrified by the tragedies that they see. I wont spoil the ending for you, but I will say this, it is one of those songs that are so tragic that it makes my knees buckle. And the worst part.. it is still somehow so beautiful.

How can it be that it is all so tragic and yet so beautiful?? Why is it that we find beauty in suffering? How is it that we do not despair and continue to choose to live despite all the suffering that is going on in this world? Where do we draw our hope from my friends? What keeps you going after a song like that? These are the things this song makes me ponder.

That’s it for this week.

I had so much fun writing out why I love each one of these songs! If you guys want me to share more of my favourite songs do let me know!!

Cheers my friends, have a great rest of your week!!
